STF-43 Soft Leaf Tall Fescue is our best selling fescue. STF-43 is an innovative blend of late-maturing, soft-leaved tall fescues. STF-43 produces impressive dry matter yields with exceptional levels of digestible fiber. STF-43 is the result of Barenbrug’s forage analyses program which measured NDF (neutral detergent fiber) and NDFd (NDF digestibility). With the lab analyses, Barenbrug identified significant differences in the amount of fiber (NDF) and its digestibility (NDFd) between improved varieties.
STF-43 soft leaf tall fescue is a “NutriFiber forage” which aids in providing Highly Digestible Effective Fiber for use in dairy rations to promote healthy rumens, reduce acidosis, while increasing butterfat tests and supporting high milk production. Proven to work in University research and on dairy farms across the U.S.
STF-43 is formulated with varieties to provide exceptional levels of digestible fiber per pound of dry matter fed. Fed to high-producing dairy cows, STF-43 provides energy derived from digestible fiber as well as the valuable effects of fiber which together promote rumen health and productivity, and, in turn animal health and productivity. STF-43 is well suited for hay and haylage/balage production. It is an excellent selection for interseeding with a legume. STF-43 is late maturing and endophyte-free.
Suggested seeding rates: Seed 25-30 lbs/acre alone or 6-15 lbs/acre in a mix.

Seeding depth: Drill ¼” deep.
Preferred soils: Medium to heavy soils.
Management suggestions: May be planted in spring or late summer on a well-prepared, firm seedbed. For interseeding into established alfalfa, best time is late summer to reduce competition. Do not mow less than 3″ for quicker regrowth and higher seasonal yields. Use 25-30 units of N at seeding, 30-40 units of N after each cutting. Total of 150 units of N/acre/year. With alfalfa, use a total of 75 units of N/acre/year. We prefer to use ammonium sulfate to supply our nitrogen and sulfur needs.
